Wilson Montjoy concentrates his practice in energy law and industrial and energy project development. Wilson represents a number of energy companies in all aspects of their Mississippi operations. His recent experience also includes extensive representation of clients such as automotive manufacturers, defense contractors, pipelines, natural gas storage and processing companies and electricity generators in connection with the development of new projects or expansions in Mississippi and frequently includes assembling and managing a team of firm specialists to handle all the client's Mississippi legal needs. Negotiation of economic development incentives and tax planning are an integral part of the services Wilson has provided. His litigation experience includes the representation of pipelines, oil and gas producers, and energy marketers in Mississippi and other states and he has represented electric generators and industrial customers in proceedings before the Public Service Commission. He has also litigated a variety of tax matters involving property, franchise, income and severance tax issues. Wilson also serves as an arbitrator and mediator.
Representative Matters
- Represented an automobile manufacturer in the implementation of the state's economic development incentive package, including review and drafting of special legislation for the project.
- Represented the Mississippi Development Authority in connection with a the negotiation and implementation of a significant incentive package and financing of a large steel mill.
- Negotiated over 40 fee-in-lieu tax agreements, reserved for projects $100 million or larger, with various counties and cities.
- Currently serving as lead local counsel in an $800 million multi-state natural gas pipeline project involving tax incentives, bond financing, real estate, eminent domain, environmental, regulatory and commercial legal needs.
- Recently obtained summary judgment in a natural gas royalty case of first impression in Mississippi state court.
- Litigated property tax disputes on issues of valuation and taxability, obtaining summary judgment regarding applicable exemptions in connection with offshore drilling rigs.
