Johnny Brunini focuses his practice on environmental law, while managing a number of litigation and corporate matters. Johnny has been recognized by Chambers USA, a leading international attorney ranking institution, as a leader in his field of Environmental Law for 2010 and 2011.
Johnny’s environmental practice includes advising clients on air and water permitting and compliance issues, surface coal mining permitting and compliance issues, wetlands permitting, state and federal property development issues (including federal Endangered Species Act matters), solid waste planning, permitting and compliance issues, emergency response matters, and large-scale project development. Johnny represents a broad range of national and local clients in environmental matters and has extensive knowledge of federal, state and local environmental regulatory agencies. He has also developed experience in municipal law and presently serves as General Counsel to the Madison County Wastewater Authority. Through various projects involving a number of state government and regulatory entities, Johnny has developed expertise in various issues involving government contracts, including bid protest litigation and litigation resulting from disputes arising out of Mississippi’s Public Records Act. Johnny also represents a number of clients in general corporate matters, providing legal counseling and strategy.
Johnny currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Mississippi Bar Association’s Section on Natural Resources, Energy and Environmental Law. He regularly speaks on environmental matters and just recently was asked to address legal issues arising out of the BP Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico and the Kemper County, Mississippi Clean Coal Project at the July 2011 meeting of the Mississippi Bar Section on Natural Resources, Energy, and Environmental Law at the Mississippi Bar Convention at Sandestin, Florida.
Johnny graduated cum laude from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi with a Bachelor of Arts in 1996, double-majoring in English and Spanish with a Philosophy minor. He received his J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law in May, 2000. Johnny pursued his interest in environmental and natural resources law by spending his final year in law school as a visiting student at Vermont Law School, where he studied environmental law.
