John M. Flynt
Member

John Flynt is a native of Jackson, Mississippi, and joined the firm in March 2005. He has a wide range of corporate legal experience and representation on complex commercial transactions.  John focuses his practice on providing general corporate advice, representing companies in mergers, acquisitions and dispositions, negotiating debt and equity financings, and advising on joint venture, corporate development and corporate restructuring matters. John has significant experience in the manufacturing and project development sectors. 

From August 1998 through January 2005, John held several positions in the legal department of a former New York Stock Exchange chemical manufacturer and served as an advisor to senior management and the board of directors.  In January 2004, John became General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of the company and an officer. Upon his appointment as Associate General Counsel in January 2003, John assumed full responsibility for the legal affairs of the company. While at the company, John was the securities compliance officer with responsibility for SEC filings.  From May 2003 through December 2004, John managed the company's Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization case and negotiated the sale of the company, debtor-in-possession credit facilities, the sale of the company's mining operations, and the spin-off of a significant operating subsidiary to creditors.

John began his corporate law practice with the Jackson, Mississippi, law firm of Watkins Ludlam Winter & Stennis, P.A.

John is a 1996 magna cum laude graduate of the Cumberland School of Law of Samford University.  At Cumberland, he was a Presidential Scholar, a member of the Cumberland Law Review, received Scholar of Merit Awards for Evidence and Constitutional Law, and was selected by the faculty as a Cordell Hull Teaching Fellow.  Upon graduation, the Cumberland faculty awarded John its highest distinction for academic performance and contributions to the law school by inducting him into the academic society of Curia Honoris.

John and his wife Nell are active in many civic organizations in the Jackson community and have two daughters.
