Gene Wasson joined the Brunini Firm in 1991. He concentrates his practice primarily in the areas of energy law and environmental law.
Gene’s energy law practice includes all aspects of oil and gas exploration and production, including preparing title opinions, handling oil and gas related transactions, and representing clients before the Mississippi Oil and Gas Board. He has also dealt with coal, bentonite, and other minerals. Additionally, Gene has extensive experience with energy infrastructure projects such as interstate natural gas pipelines, natural gas storage facilities, and power plants, including preparing and negotiating utility easement agreements, gas storage leases, and other transactional documents, overseeing right-of-way acquisition projects, and litigating right-of-way and property disputes.
Gene’s environmental practice has included numerous cases involving cost recovery under CERCLA, citizen suit claims under RCRA and CWA, and common law claims related to environmental contamination. Gene has also represented clients in enforcement actions before state and federal authorities, including MDEQ, EPA, and USACE, under RCRA, EPCRA, CAA, and CWA. In addition, Gene advises clients on all aspects of environmental compliance, permitting, due diligence, and contracting. He has also advised clients on OSHA compliance and has contested OSHA citations.
