Summary
of Meeting Held January 10, 2012
Prepared By Brunini, Grantham, Grower
& Hewes, PLLC
The
Mississippi Environmental Quality Permit Board convened its regular monthly meeting
at 9:00 a.m. on January 10, at the offices of the Mississippi Department of
Environmental Quality in Jackson. Michael Bograd chaired the meeting attended
by all Board members. Minutes from the
December meeting were approved, as were all non-controversial permits issued by
the staff since the last meeting.
Following a prepared agenda, items considered were as follows:
OFFICE OF POLLUTION CONTROL
Robert Coxwell, Poultry (Wayne County)
Modification
Request under the
Dry Litter
Poultry General Permit
MSG200077
The permit
application is for the construction of two additional broiler houses to total
six houses at the site in order to manage 185,400 broilers. Approximately 2.5 acres would be disturbed
for construction of the houses. Three
letters of concern were received by MDEQ staff regarding unpleasant odors in
the area, an increase in the rodent population and other health hazards. MDEQ’s tracking system has no record of prior
complaints regarding the facility, and the staff believes that all application
requirements have been met. The Board voted to approve the permit.
